How You Got Involved In Letterpress Printing
The shop was started in 1946 by my father, George Bull Young. I took over the shop at his death in 1982. I've been rescuing type & equipment since then & continue to fill up the garage with stuff to this day. I'm an active member of the Amalgamated Printers' Association & print for spare change.
Presses & Equipment
1876 Geo. Ph. Gordon 9x13; 1911 C&P Pilot; 1923 C&P 10x15; 1949 Kelsey 5x8; two Superior Cub Rotary presses; 23" C&P paper cutter; 100+ different type faces, the usual clutter.
Education & Training
Trained by my father & numerous dear friends, many now departed. College degree in linguistics; 40 years as an educational technologue. It's complicated.
Work History
USN Radioman; Composing room foreman in an offset newspaper shop; Electronics technician; retired.
Other Interests & Hobbies
Amateur radio, jazz music & good food with friends & family.
