How You Got Involved In Letterpress Printing
<p style="text-align: justify;">At the age of 7, I saw a Superior Marking and Equipment Company toy "Cub" press with rubber letters in a store window in Oahu, Hawaii and thought it was "cool.". Santa brought it to me on Christmas morning and I printed my first 3" x 5" neighborhood "newspaper" that afternoon. I continued to print on successively larger toy presses for the next 5 or 6 years. Then in Junior High I discoverd "real" printing in the school print shop with both letterpress and offset. We printed all sorts of certificates, stationery and the school newspaper. In college, in 1970, a friend phoned me to say a 10x15 C&amp;P Old Style was abandoned in an empty lot in Oakland California, and he thought I might want it. On a college break, I investigated and got permission to move it home. I restored it and print on it to this day. After that I became a hobby printer while I pursued a totally different career in college administration and student leadership development. But I have continued to collect and tinker with letterpress ever since.</p>
